Having a high-quality fishing line is the first step to enjoy fishing, but it involves other important things also. Once you have bought the right fishing gear, you need to learn how to make the best fishing knot.

With so much new fishing equipment appearing in the market, there is still confusion about knots. This is why, we have brought you the major types of fishing knots and how to make them.

Types of Fishing Knots

Here are some of the most common types of fishing knots with the easiest way of making them. We are sure they will help you once you have got a hang of the basic techniques.

Palomar Knot

Palomar knot is a variation of braided fishing line. It is quite popular because it is so easy to tie and use. To make this knot, you have to double 6 inches of line and pass it through the hook’s eye. Now, tie the overhand knot without minimizing the line in hook. Pull both ends of the knot after moistening them and then cut off the excess.

Double Surgeon’s Knot

Surgeon’s knot is also called as the double surgeon’s knot. It is another best fishing line knot which is great for lines having unequal diameters. To make this knot, you have to position the main line next to the leader line.

Now, you have to pass the long end of the leader line through the loop. Meanwhile, pass the tag end of the main line through the loop and make an overhand knot using these two. Pass these ends through the loop again and make another overhand loop. Now pull at all four ends after moistening them and tighten the knot in place. At the end, cut all the tags to avoid any fringes of lines.

Trilene Knot

If you want to tie the fishing line to a swivel or lure, then a Trilene knot can be very helpful. People also call it Two Turn Clinch Knot. You can make it using a fluorocarbon fishing line. Begin by sliding the line through the hook and then repeating the movement using the same end. This will form a twin loop at the hook eye.

After this, you have to twist the tag end round the standing line four to five times. You should be careful of doing this while moving away from the hook. Now, pass the tag end through the double loop at the eye of hook. Then, moisten the tag end, secure the knot tightly and trim the edges.

All of these fishing knots are quite easy to make. They are also reliable and strong enough to withstand strong water current while you set out for fishing. You can try all of these to find out which one works the best for you.

Everyone has different preferences for fishing knots, so you should find out which one you like the best. It is better to practice the knots beforehand to save any inconvenience on your fishing trip.
